At the request of Mindrolling Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche, His Holiness the Karmapa granted an audience to a select group of people including HE Khochhen Rinpoche, Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche, Jetsün Dechen Paldrön, the nuns of Samten Tse, members of Lotus Garden Retreat Center and the western students who had travelled from all over the world to be part of the ceremonies.

Speaking in a commanding resonant voice, His Holiness the Karmapa spoke that "although Kyabje Mindrolling Trichen Rinpoche has passed away, if you look at it from the point of view of the absolute, his presence is indestructible and still continues to ceaselessly benefit all those with devotion and pure samaya. Only the outer aspect of the Guru has changed but the inner aspect is beyond any change and still continues to benefit Mindrolling and all sentient beings. Kyabje Mindrolling Trichen is no different from Vajradhara himself who is beyond any coming and going."

His Holiness the Karmapa also spoke about the importance of Mindrolling as the source of many rituals and mantrayana teachings of Tibetan Buddhism and said that even the Kagyu school has taken on many rituals and liturgies from Mindrolling.

His Holiness the Gyalwang Karmapa then said that although His Holiness himself had not been fortunate enough to personally experience the activities of His Holiness Mindrolling Trichen, His Holiness often read Kyabje Mindrolling Trichen's composition of Calling the Guru from Afar and that it had been a source of great inspiration to His Holiness personally. His Holiness Gyalwang Karmapa then said that he would be praying for Sangyum Kushog, HE Khochhen Rinpoche, Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche, Jetsün Dechen Paldrön and the entire sangha of Mindrolling.
